- Blended learning
- Training that combines face-to-face sessions with online learning in one program. Related →
- Community of practice
- A group of people who share a profession or interest and learn from each other through discussion, questions and shared resources. Related →
- Continuing Education Unit (CEU)
- A unit of credit that professionals earn for completing accredited training, often required to keep a certification or licence. Related →
- Continuing Professional Education (CPE)
- Ongoing training that accountants and other regulated professionals must complete each year to keep their licence. Related →
- Gamification
- Using game elements such as points, badges, levels and leaderboards to motivate learners. Related →
- Hybrid learning
- A format where some participants learn in person and others online, often at the same time. Related →
- Just-in-time learning
- Learning delivered at the moment it is needed on the job, usually short and searchable. Related →
- Learning Experience Platform (LXP)
- A learning platform built around the learner: personalized paths, content discovery, social learning and engagement, rather than only assigning and tracking courses. Related →
- Learning Management System (LMS)
- Software for delivering, tracking and managing structured training: courses, enrolments, assessments, completion and reporting. Related →
- Learning Record Store (LRS)
- A database that stores xAPI statements about learning activity. Related →
- Learning path
- An ordered sequence of courses, sessions and assessments that leads a learner to a defined goal, such as onboarding or a certification. Related →
- Microlearning
- Short, focused lessons of a few minutes, designed to fit into the working day and improve retention. Related →
- Multi-tenant administration
- Running several separate client spaces from one platform and one admin account. Related →
- SCORM
- A technical standard that lets e-learning content made in an authoring tool run and report results inside an LMS. Related →
- Single sign-on (SSO)
- Signing in to the learning platform with an existing company account instead of a separate password. Related →
- Spaced repetition
- Reviewing material at increasing intervals so it moves into long-term memory. Related →
- White-label LMS
- A learning platform a training company can brand as its own and offer to its clients. Related →
- xAPI (Tin Can)
- A newer standard for recording learning activity as statements ("Ana completed Module 3"), including activity outside the LMS. Related →
